Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

LAKEWOOD, NJ - The Lakewood BlueClaws (3-9/29-50) committed three errors in the first and could not rebound in the 6-2 loss to the Delmarva Shorebirds (6-6/36-43) Monday night at FirstEnergy Park. The loss put the Claws to 7-21 over their last 28 games.

The Shorebirds did not waste any time at all and tagged Jonathan Musser and the BlueClaws for three runs in the first. George Barber led off the game with an infield single.

Willie Carmona committed a throwing error on a ground ball off the bat of Tucker Nathans that put two in scoring position with nobody out. Creede Simpson followed with a single to right that Zach Taylor booted and allowed the first two runs to score. Art Charles then booted a grounder by Joel Hutter that scored Simpson and put Delmarva in front 3-0.

After the three-run, three-error first, the BlueClaws and Musser settled down some and never allowed a multiple-run inning the rest of the game, but the Shorebirds continued to pile up the runs.

Simpson led off the third with a single and scored on a double to right-center off the bat of Nik Balog to put Delmarva up 4-0. An RBI single off the bat of Barber upped the lead to 5-0 in the fourth and the number nine hitter Greg Lorenzo singled home Chace Weems in the sixth to cap off the scoring.

Matt Taylor was the true story for the Shorebirds as he spun a beauty Monday night. The southpaw kept the BlueClaws off the board for the first five frames, until a hiccup in the sixth.

Chace Numata drew a leadoff walk in the sixth and Carlos Tocci bunted to put two on with no one out in the sixth. Angelo Mora worked the count full before he hit an RBI double to left that pulled Lakewood within five at 6-1. Tocci scored the second tally for the Claws on an RBI groundout off the bat of Carmona.

Taylor (4-7) regrouped and retired the side in order in the seventh to finish his outing. The lefty allowed just the two runs on four hits over his seven innings; he walked only one and struck out five. Mychal Givens took over and pitched the final two frames in hitless fashion.

Musser (1-3) hung around to finish the sixth inning for Lakewood. The starter allowed six runs, four of which were earned, on 11 hits; he didn't walk a batter and struck out four. Danny Carela took over and polished off the 'Birds with three scoreless innings.

Lakewood will send RHP Severino Gonzalez (0-0, 0.00) to the mound for his second start of the season with the BlueClaws and will be matched up against RHP Parker Bridwell (5-6, 5.26) of the Shorebirds.
