Clark's Skill on Display as Ottawa Earns Massive 3-2 Win over Oshawa

February 24, 2017 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL) - Ottawa 67's News Release

OTTAWA - 67's rookie Kody Clark had two goals and Artur Tyanulin had a goal and an assist, as the Ottawa 67's scored a massive two points in a 3-2 win over the Oshawa Generals Friday night at the Arena at TD Place.

With the victory and losses from both the Niagara IceDogs and the North Bay Battalion, the 67's have vaulted back into a playoff position thanks to the victory.

Jeff Brown, 67's head coach and general manager, said there were lots of blocked shots late in the game to preserve the one-goal win.

"There are a lot of ice bags on in (the dressing room), and that's what it's all about," Brown said. "You have to do that stuff to win."

The 67's came out swinging, getting the first two goals of the game. In his first game as an alternate captain, Artur Tyanulin gave the 67's an early lead, finishing a pass from Austen Keating at 1:10 of the first period.

Then, Clark put on a skill clinic with a breathtaking highlight-reel goal. He broke into the zone one-on-one versus Oshawa defender Matt Brassard, toe-dragged around him and roofed a snap shot for a 2-0 Ottawa lead.

"Kody's got that knack," Brown said of Clark's play this year. "At some point I think he's going to explode in this league. He had a goal scorer's goal tonight."

Oshawa would add one before the end of the frame, but Ottawa flew out of the gate in the second as well.

They recorded the first nine shots of the period, and Clark would add his second goal of the game. He finished a passing play, with Tyanulin dishing it to him on the right side of the net. The 67's held their 3-1 lead into the second intermission.

The third period was more fortunate for the Generals, where they doubled the 67's in shots 12-6. However, Allan McShane's late goal was the only marker of the period for Oshawa, and they fell 3-2 to the 67's.

Ottawa continues their three-in-three set tomorrow afternoon, with an afternoon contest against the Hamilton Bulldogs. Puck drop is at 2 p.m.
