Tampa Yankees News Release

TAMPA, Fla. - Four pitchers, led by LHP Ian Clarkin and RHP Travis Hissong, combined to shut out the Jupiter Hammerheads (24-32) and lead the Tampa Yankees (30-28) to a 6-0 win on Monday night at George M. Steinbrenner Field.

Kyle Barrett led off the game with a double into the right field corner. After walking Junior Arrojo, Clarkin got a pair of pop-outs and the inning ended when catcher Wes Wilson caught Barrett trying to steal third base.

The T-Yanks jumped ahead in the bottom of the first against RHP Felipe Gonzalez . Jorge Mateo reached on a hit-by-pitch and remained in the game after being examined by trainer Michael Becker. The 21-year-old promptly stole second and later scored on a flare hit into shallow left field by Tito Polo .

Polo then swiped second, but was able to trot home when Trey Amburgey blasted a two-out, two-run home run over the left field wall. It was the 22-year-old's eighth homer and his third in his last five games.

Jhalan Jackson crushed a leadoff double off the left field wall in the second and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Gosuke Katoh . Later, the run scored on a two-out, RBI single by Mateo, giving the Yankees a 4-0 lead.

The Hammerheads brought the tying run to the plate in the third, loading the bases with one out. Clarkin escaped the threat by getting Brad Haynal to bounce into an inning-ending 5-4-3 double play.

Clarkin bounced back with a perfect fourth inning before leaving the game. The southpaw, making his second appearance since being activated off the disabled list, scattered four hits over four scoreless innings. Clarkin walked two, struck out two and threw 41 of 72 pitches for strikes.

Gonzalez (L, 4-6) left the game after one and two-third innings pitched for the Hammerheads. The righty allowed three earned runs on four hits and a hit-batter while striking out one and throwing 20 of 33 pitches for strikes.

Tampa added two more runs off the Jupiter bullpen in the later innings. Polo lined a single into center and stole second before scoring on a single into right by Greg Bird in the seventh. Katoh slapped a one-out single in the eighth and later scored on a two-out, RBI single by Kyle Holder .

Hissong (W, 1-0) fired three perfect innings, tallying four strikeouts in relief of Clarkin. RHP Joe Harvey made his season debut and struck out one while stranding a walk and a hit in the eighth. RHP Jordan Foley fired a 1-2-3 ninth in his first action of the year, getting defensive help from diving plays by Holder at third base and Katoh at second base.

Polo (2-for-4, RBI, 2SB) logged his 14th multi-hit game. Mateo (1-for-4, HBP, RBI, R, SB) tallied his 20th stolen base. Amburgey (1-for-4, HR, 2RBI, R) notched his 10th multi-RBI game of the season and now leads the team with 29RBI.

Bird (1-for-3, BB, RBI) played his fifth game with Tampa, batting fourth and playing first base for all nine innings. The 24-year-old is currently on a rehab assignment, returning from re-aggravating a bone bruise in his right ankle originally suffered towards the end of Spring Training.

The series concludes on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. with RHP Albert Abreu (0-3, 5.57 ERA) set to face RHP Jeff Brigham (1-0, 5.40 ERA).
