Edenton Steamers News Release

EDENTON, NC - The Edenton Steamers finished off the Holly Springs Salamanders 7-0 in game three of the East Division Semi-finals after dropping game two by a score of 4-2 on Saturday. Edenton (2-1, 42-16) moves on to face the Wilmington Sharks in the East Division Championship series, while Holly Springs (1-2, 29-30) concludes its inaugural season in the CPL.

Jimmy Lynch took the loss in game one of the doubleheader, surrendering two runs on two hits while walking one and striking out one in one inning. Matt Festa picked up the win in the final game, hurling five shutout innings while allowing two hits and one walk to nine strikeouts.

Brett Daniels collected the win in game one for the Salamanders, giving up two runs on five hits while walking three batters and fanning five in six innings. Chris Cervantes was responsible for the loss in the last game, lasting only two-thirds of an inning and allowing six earned runs on four hits and three walks to two strikeouts.

The Steamers opened the scoring early in game two of the series. Julian Russell knocked a one-out single in the first, advancing to second on a Mick Fennell groundout. In the next at bat, Chad Sedio added a single to score Russell and put the Clams up 1-0.

After the Salamanders knotted the score in the top of the sixth, Edenton retook the lead in the bottom of the inning. Russell drew a walk to open the frame, and Fennell singled to put runners on the corners. Sedio followed with his second RBI single to put the Steamers back on top 2-1.

Holly Springs took a lead it never surrendered in the seventh. After a leadoff walk to Robbie Thorburn, Will Nance cracked a home run over the left-field wall, giving the Salamanders 3-2 advantage.

Holly Springs added an insurance run in the ninth when Shaq Rolle singled with one out and stole second and third. Stefan Van Horn's attempt to catch the runner at third skipped past Russell, allowing Rolle to come home.

Edenton put away the final game of the series quickly with six runs in the first inning. Evan Rogers opened with a triple, and Russell singled him home. Walks to Fennell and Sedio loaded the bases before Tony Rosselli doubled to right to tack on two runs. After Nick Maguire and Chance Shepard struck out, Cole Gruber drew a walk to load the bases for a second time. Trey Hair added another double, scoring all three base runners to give the Steamers a 6-0 advantage.

The Clams plated another run in the bottom of the sixth to polish off the series with a 7-0 victory, sending them on to the next round of the Petitt Cup Playoffs.

The Edenton Steamers travel to Wilmington for game one of the East Division Championship series against the Sharks on Sunday. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. The Teal and Black hosts games two and three, if necessary, on Monday and Tuesday, respectively.
