Christian Colon Named Puerto Rican League Rookie of the Year
SPRINGDALE, AR - Christian Colon has ended Winter Ball with a bang. Colon will be returning to the states with one of the Puerto Rican Leagues top honors, Rookie of the Year.
The second baseman hit .301 for the Leones, the Royals Puerto Rican Winter League Team. Colon played in 39 games and added 13 stolen bases to his stellar Winter League stats.
Colon, 22, was selected by the Royals in the first round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft. Colon spent all of the 2011 and part of the 2012 season with the Naturals. In 2012 Colon was named to the Texas League All-Star team, he finished out his campaign with the naturals batting .289 with 5 home runs and 27 RBI in 73 games.
Colon is one of three former Naturals to take home Winter League awards this season. Salvador Perez took home the Venezuelan League Rookie of the Year award and right-handed pitcher Juan Gutierrez was named the Venezuelan League Reliever of the Year.
