Jackson Generals News Release

JACKSON, TENN. (July 31, 2013) - Jackson scored seven unanswered runs and Ji-Man Choi hit his second grand slam of the season, as the Generals (17-19) won their second straight over the Huntsville Stars (17-21), 7-3. Jackson tallied 12 hits and had a base runner in every inning and featured a hit in every frame except the fourth. The season series is now tied at 6-6.

Starting pitching had been a strong point in the first three games of the series, but both Ariel Pena and Anthony Vasquez (ND, 1-1, 3.38) labored through their outings. Both hurlers allowed three earned runs, but Vasquez managed to go five innings. The left-hander allowed nine hits, all singles, with three strikeouts and three walks. Pena never made it out of the fifth as his four walks got him in trouble a few times.

Both starters were done after five innings with the score notched at 3-3. Huntsville had grabbed one run to open the first inning for the third time in the series and added two more in the third. Things could have been worse for Vasquez as he worked his way out of every inning with runners on base, including the bags packed in the second. Jackson matched Huntsville's three runs with two in the third and one in the fifth.

As Pena's night was finished, Jackson had scored three unanswered runs and kept the momentum rolling in the sixth. Chris Taylor (1-3, BB, 2 R) singled with one out in the sixth. James Jones (2-4, SB, BB, R) and Julio Morban (1-4, 2B BB, 2 R, RBI) both walked to load the bases and Ji-Man Choi (2-3, GS, 4 RBI, 2 BB, 2 R, 2B) did the rest. The power-hitting first basemen lifted a 0-2 fastball over the fence in right for his second grand slam this season. It was a four-run seventh and it helped propel Jackson to the 7-3 victory.

Stephen Kohlscheen (2.63) had one of the most dominant performances of his season striking out five batters in two innings of work. Tyler Burgoon (1.94) lowered his ERA under two with two scoreless frames, adding two strikeouts as well.

The Generals were 4-for-20 with runners in scoring position, but still evened the season series at 6-6 with the win. The teams combined to leave 22 runners on base, 12 for the home team. Ramon Morla (3-5, 2 RBI, 3B) added his eighth multi-hit game for Jackson. Choi's second grand slam in the sixth gave his stats a boost with the bases loaded. He is now 5-for-6 with two home runs, a triple and 14 RBIs with the bags packed.

The series finale Thursday will begin at 7:05 p.m. (CT). Trevor Miller (0-1, 8.10) will look to notch his first win at the Double-A level. The Stars will counter with Brooks Hall (0-4, 5.88). The game can be heard on 96.5 ESPN Radio, TuneIn Radio App. and jacksongeneralsbaseball.com.
