Club Deportivo Chivas USA News Release
CARSON, Calif. (Friday, Aug. 14, 2009) - Chivas USA announced today that it has acquired defender Yamith Cuesta, a member of the Colombian Under-20 National Team, on loan from Colombian side Expreso Rojo. Cuesta will be eligible to play for Chivas USA pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate. Per league and team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"Yamith is an exciting young player with good presence in the middle of the defense," said Chivas USA Head Coach Preki. "He has experience both in the Colombian league and with their Under-20 National Team, and we're looking forward to having him join the squad."
Cuesta made his debut in the Colombian First Division with Bogotá club Santa Fé in 2007, playing 24 matches for the club, notching two goals. In 2008, the 6'3" center back joined Expreso Rojo in the Colombian Second Division, where he has played since. Cuesta has also made several appearances for the Colombian Under-20 National Team, and scored the only goal in the team's 1-0 victory over Peru in January.
Chivas USA also announced today that it has added defender Jim Curtin and forward Ante Razov to the Disabled List. Both players will miss a minimum of six matches, making the players ineligible for MLS action until the Sept. 26 match against the New York Red Bulls at the earliest.
Curtin has been added to the Disabled List due to a peroneus brevis tear in his left ankle, an injury which will require surgery, tentatively scheduled for Aug. 26, which will force the defender to miss between four and six months. Razov, a Los Angeles native and Chivas USA's all-time leading scorer, is on the Disabled List due to right ankle tendonitis. The forward underwent right ankle surgery on Jan. 30 and has not played a match in 2009 for the Red-and-White.
Chivas USA faces the New York Red Bulls this Saturday, Aug. 15, at 4:00 p.m. PT (7:00 p.m. ET) at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. The team then hosts Toronto FC on Saturday, Aug. 22, at 7:30 p.m. PT at The Home Depot Center.
