El Paso Chihuahuas News Release
The Salt Lake Bees beat El Paso for the second time in seven tries this season, defeating the Chihuahuas 10-5 Thursday night at Southwest University Park. Former Phillies and Rockies starter Kyle Kendrick pitched six innings and got the win, his second victory against the Chihuahuas in 2016.
The Bees held a 6-0 early lead and chased Chihuahuas starter Frank Garces from the game after the fourth inning. The Chihuahuas chipped away at the deficit with a three-run fourth on RBI groundouts from Alex Dickerson and Jabari Blash, as well as an RBI single by Jason Hagerty.
El Paso's final two runs came in the bottom of the ninth on an RBI single by Carlos Asuaje, who went 3-for-5 in the loss, and a solo home run by Austin Hedges, who now has homers in three games in a row and has longballs in five of his last seven contests. Manuel Margot went 2-for-4 with a stolen base atop El Paso's order.
Derek Eitel faced the minimum in two innings of scoreless relief. Chihuahuas backup catcher Ricardo Valenzuela pitched a scoreless ninth inning, joining El Paso infielders Casey McElroy and James Loney as position players with scoreless outings on the mound this season.
