Salt Lake Bees News Release

SALT LAKE CITY (April 29, 2017) - The El Paso Chihuahuas snapped the Salt Lake Bees three-game winning streak Saturday night at Smith's Ballpark as the El Paso rallied for six runs in the top of the fifth and held on for an 8-7 victory.

Rey Navarro led the Bees offense with his second consecutive three-hit game, extending his hitting streak to ten games and his on-base streak to 15 games. Ramon Flores saw his league-high 17-game on-base streak end, but Shane Robinson extended his on-base streak to 17 with a second inning single. Eric Young, Jr. recorded a hit for the 15th consecutive game, and the Bees notched at least ten hits as a team for the 11th straight game.

"If they're not getting a quality pitch, then they're passing the baton to the next guy," Bees manager Keith Johnson said of the team's offensive approach. "As a group, it allows us to prolong innings, and nobody is giving away at-bats."

Manny Banuelos got the start on the mound for Salt Lake and worked four scoreless frames before the Chihuahua offense got to him in the fifth. Cody Ege, Justin Miller and Keynan Middleton relieved Banuelos and kept the Bees within striking distance. Salt Lake scored a single run in the seventh, eighth and ninth inning, bringing the tying run to the plate in each frame but could not complete the comeback.

Salt Lake and El Paso continue their five-game series with a double-header Sunday afternoon at Smith's Ballpark. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
