Chihuahuas Explosive Offense Powers Past Aces 10-3

RENO, Nev. - The Reno Aces took the field at home Sunday looking to split their four-game set with the El Paso Chihuahuas. Reno Starter Frank Duncan took the mound for the second ti?me against the Chihuahuas this season looking to stop the explosive El Paso lineup. The right-hander tossed five and one-third innings and allowed five runs on a 13 hits while striking out four batters. Duncan gave up a career high in hits, topping his previous career high of 11 hits to El Paso on April 25 this earlier this season. Zach Borenstein and Jeremy Hazelbaker led the Aces offensively with one RBI each.

El Paso jumped out to an early lead in the top of the third with a three-run inning. Dusty Coleman led off with his 15th double of the season to right center field. Coleman would go on to steal third base with one out and be brought in on a single by Franchy Cordero. Christian Villanueva would later double in his 52nd and 53rd RBIs of the year, bringing in Cordero and Chase d'Arnaud with two outs.

In the top half of the fifth, the Aces would give up another two runs, extending the El Paso lead to 5-0. Chase d'Arnaud doubled for his third hit of the game to lead off the frame. He would later score on a single up the middle by Villanueva who recorded his third RBI of the day. Villanueva would also cross home plate on a sacrifice fly by Rafael Ortega to right center that was fielded by a diving Negr?n.

The Aces would end their offensive silence in the bottom half of the fifth and sixth innings by scratching one-run across in each. Rudy Flores led off the fifth with the Aces first hit of the day, a fly ball double to center field. Flores would reach third on a throwing error by El Paso third baseman Christian Villanueva. Hank Conger would ground into a three-six-three double play scoring Flores. In the sixth, Christian Walker hit a two out single to right field and scored off a deep fly ball triple to right field by Borenstein, his 4th triple of the year.

The Aces would work to get one more run in the bottom of the seventh inning off El Paso starter Michael Kelly. Tony Renda singled with one out to third base and scored on pinch hitter Hazelbaker's 13th double of the season. Kelly was able to earn the win for El Paso tossing seven innings while giving up three runs on six hits and three strikeouts.

The Chihuahuas were able to hold on to the win after a five-run top of the seventh, which included Dusty Coleman's 13th homerun of the year, pushed the lead almost out of reach for the Aces. Reno dropped its third game in a row in front of an attendance of 4,080 at Greater Nevada Field.

With the loss, Reno moves to 55-39, still in first place over the Fresno Grizzlies in the division standings. The Aces will continue their home stand with a four-game set against the Salt Lake Bees with game one tomorrow at Greater Nevada Field.
