Peoria, IL - The Peoria Chiefs scored four runs in the bottom of the 8th inning to rally past the Kane County Cougars 7-6 in front of a sellout crowd of 7,151 on Monday night. The win, their ninth in a row at home against the Cougars, moves the Chiefs to 5-7 in the second half of the season and 45-37 overall.

Kane County jumped on Juan Perez in the top of the first inning for the lead. Colin Bray, brother of Chiefs reliever Tyler Bray, walked and moved to third on a single by Raymel Flores. Bray scored on a pickoff error by Perez for a 1-0 Cougars lead before Joe Munoz lined into a double play. Austin Byler tripled to right-center but Trevor Mitsui flew out to deep right to end the inning.

The Chiefs took the lead in the second against Sam McWilliams. Jose Godoy led off with a single and Dylan Becker walked. Bladimil Franco tied the game 1-1 with a single to right and Craig Aikin singled to load the bases with no outs. Magneuris Sierra flew out to deep left as Becker scored easily for a 2-1 lead. McWilliams stranded the other two runners as Leo Pina flew out to left and Eli Alvarez grounded out.

The Chiefs didn't lead for long as the Cougars took advantage of Perez's wildness in the third. Matt Railey singled and with one out Flores drew the first walk of the inning. Railey stole third with two otus and Perez walked Byler to load the bases. Kane County tied the game when Mitsui walked to force home Railey and they took a 4-2 lead on a single by Fernery Ozuna.

The Chiefs cut the deficit in half in the fourth but left the bases loaded in the process. Franco reached on an error at shortstop and Aikin singled. With runners at second and third, Franco was out at the plate on a fielders' choice off the bat of Pina. Alvarez singled to left-center to cut the Kane County lead to 4-3 as Aikin scored. Brian O'Keefe walked to load the bases with two outs but Chris Chinea grounded out to end the inning.

Kane County took advantage and knocked Perez from the game in the fifth inning. With one down, Munoz clobbered his 5th home run of the season into the center field berm for a 5-3 lead. Byler doubled high off the wall in right-field and he scored on a two-out single by Ozuna for a 6-3 lead. Harley Holt came out of the Chiefs bullpen and retired Francis Christy to end the inning.

The Chiefs put runners on first and third in the fifth inning after a Kane County error and an Aikin single. But lefty reliever Kirby Bellow struck out Sierra to end the inning. The Chiefs drew two walks against Carlos Hernandez in the sixth but again left two on base as Godoy grounded out.

Peoria finally broke through in the eighth against Mason McCullough and Drew Muren. Sierra led off with a double and scored when Railey booted a single by Pina in left field. Alvarez singled to center and Muren entered the game to replace McCullough. O'Keefe drew a walk to load the bases and Pina scored on a groundout by Chinea to cut the Cougars lead to 6-5. Edmundo Sosa pinch-ran for O'Keefe at second and Alvarez scored on a wild pitch to tie the game. Godoy put the Chiefs on top 7-6 with a sacrifice fly to center as Sosa scored easily before Muren got out of the inning.

Tyler Bray entered the game in the ninth and with one out faced his younger brother Colin for the first time as a professional. Colin singled to center on the first pitch, stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch. Tyler recovered to get a ground out for the second out before he struck out Munoz swinging to end the game.

Perez took a no-decision allowing six runs on seven hits and four walks over 4 2/3 innings while striking out two. Holt threw 2 1/3 shutout innings without allowing a hit as he struck out two. Steven Gallardo (1-1) picked up his first professional win with a perfect inning in which he struck out one.
