Chiefs Win 4-3 Saturday

Peoria, Il- The Peoria Chiefs scored two runs in the seventh inning to break a 2-2 tie and went on to beat the Beloit Snappers 4-3 on Saturday night. The win moved the Chiefs record to 45-38 on the year and 7-9 in the second half heading into Sunday's matchup.

The Chiefs grabbed the first lead of the game in the third inning against Vincent Voiro. Charlie Tilson opened the inning with a bunt single, and C.J. McElroy drove him in with a double to left field. After Gerwuins Velazco moved McElroy to third with a sacrifice bunt, Martini drove him in with a single to put the Chiefs up 2-0.

The Snappers got one of those runs back in the top of the fourth frame off Silfredo Garcia. Chris Bostick singled and advanced to second on a John Wooten ground out. Matt Olson doubled to right, platting Bostick and cutting the Chiefs lead to 2-1. After Beloit put runners on second and third, Garcia escaped the rest of the frame undamaged with a strikeout of Ryan Delgado.

Beloit tied the score in the top of the seventh against Michael Aldrete. With one out Delgado walked and reached second on a wild pitch. Sam Roberts singled to plate Delgado and tie the game at 2-2.

The Chiefs responded with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Jacob Wilson led off with a walk, and after Stuart Pudenz came in for Voiro, Ildemaro Vargas moved Wilson to second with a sacrifice bunt and reached first on an error. Tilson laid down a bunt single up the third base line to load the bases, and McElroy's second double of the game scored Wilson and Vargas, putting the Chiefs on top 4-2.

Beloit answered with a run of their own in the top of the eighth against Joe Donofrio. With one out Bostick singled and moved to third on a Wooten double. Bostick scored on an Olson a sacrifice fly cutting the Cheifs lead to 4-3, which would ultimately be the final tally.

Garcia gave up one run on four hits and one walk while fanning three in five innings. Aldrete (2-2) tossed two innings while giving up one run on one hit and one walk. Donofrio gave up one run on two hits and no walks in two innings while earning his second save of the season.
