Johnstown Chiefs News Release
Wheeling, WV - The Johnstown Chiefs put the brakes on their eight-game losing streak with a 5-2 win against Wheeling on Friday night.
The Chiefs' offense jumped all over the Nailers in the first period, setting the pace for the game.
Alex Imbeault tapped in a rebound off of a Jean Desrochers shot just 4:32 into the game, beating Martin Houle for the 1-0 lead. Randy Rowe picked up the second assist on the power play goal. Rowe would then add his own marker when he wired a one-timer past Houle's glove hand for a 2-0 Chiefs advantage. Imbeault fed Rowe in the low slot after taking a pass behind the net from Desrochers. The goal was Rowe's 50th as a Chief.
Vincent Zaore would score his first pro goal on a slap shot from the right point with 1:08 left in the first to stretch the lead to 3-0. Desrochers picked up his third assist of the period while Imbeault added his second.
The only goal in the second came with Wheeling on the power play when Sean Collins beat Ryan Nie with a snap shot from the right wing.
The Chiefs answered emphatically with two goals 2:01 apart in the third period, the first by Rowe, his second of the game, and the second by Rob Drummond. Desrochers and Imbeault assisted on Rowe's second power play goal, while Kenny Roche and Ryan Garlock teamed up to get Drummond open in the slot for his first goal since returning from Lake Erie.
David Laliberte would put Wheeling's second goal in with 2:46 left in the game, but by then it was too late for a comeback.
Nie finished the game with 20 saves, while the Chiefs' power play went 2-for-6.
The Chiefs' next home game is on Monday December, 31 against the Elmira Jackals. That game marks the traditional New Year's Eve game with the special 6 PM face off. If you miss that one, you can catch the Chiefs on January 18 against the Dayton Bombers at the guaranteed win night. Every fan in attendance will go home with a prize!
