Dayton Dragons News Release

Peoria, Ill.-Peoria starting pitcher Nick Struck and two relievers combined on a four-hitter as the Chiefs defeated the Dayton Dragons 3-1 on Thursday night. The Chiefs have won the first two games of the series.

Struck (3-8) notched nine strikeouts without walking a batter over six shutout innings to earn the win. He allowed three hits. Reliever Daniel Keefe worked two perfect innings and Steven Grife pitched the ninth, allowing one run, for his first save.

Peoria got the scoring started in the third inning when Charles Thomas led off the inning with a double to right-center field and eventually scored on an infield ground out to make it 1-0. The Chiefs added their second run in the sixth when Logan Watkins singled, went to second on a balk, and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly. Peoria made it 3-0 in the seventh on a lead-off walk to Luis Flores, a single by Francisco Guzman, and an RBI groundout.

The Dragons only run came with two outs in the top of the ninth inning when Chris Richburg drilled a solo home run to left field, his second homer in the series and 14th of the season. But after Richburg's homer, Cameron Satterwhite popped out to first base to end the game.

Dragons starting pitcher Ricky Bowen (2-3) worked the first six innings, allowing just four hits and two runs with two walks and five strikeouts while suffering the loss. Reliever Ezequiel Infante worked two innings, allowing one hit and one run.

In addition to Richburg's homer, Henry Rodriguez had a double while Frank Pfister and Ryan LaMarre had singles for Dayton. The Dragons struck out 12 times in the game without drawing a walk.

The Dragons (7-13) play at Peoria (6-12) on Friday at 8:00 p.m. (EDT). Tim Crabbe (2-1, 2.54) will start for Dayton against Peoria's Ryan Searle (4-4, 3.96). The next home game is Wednesday, July 21 vs. the Cedar Rapids Kernels.
