Peoria Chiefs News Release

Davenport, IA- The Peoria Chiefs had one awful inning on Monday afternoon and it led to an 8-0 loss to the Quad Cities River Bandits to end a four-game road series. The loss puts the Chiefs back at .500 with a 17-17 record as they head north to Kane County for four more road games.

The Chiefs had the first chance to score when Casey Rasmus tripled with two outs in the third inning against Jordan Jankowski but he was left 90 feet away from the plate as Breyvic Valera grounded out. Quad Cities watched the Chiefs self destruct in the fourth and took advantage. With one on and one out, Jesse Wierzbicki hit a comeback to Josh Lucas and Carlos Correa was caught between second and third. However Lucas dropped the ball and both runners were safe. Correa scored on a single by Rio Ruiz and an error on Alex Mejia on a double play ball put two on with one out. Ariel Ovando singled home a run and Jobduan Morales made it 4-0 with a single of his own. Lucas committed a throwing error on a grounder from Jordan Scott as Quad Cities took a 5-0 lead. A two-run double by Austin Elkins made it 7-0 and Miles Hamblin capped the eight-run inning with a single to right.

The Chiefs did not threaten again until the ninth when Mejia led off with a double. After a pair of outs Patrick Wisdom drew a walk by Brian Holmes retired Michael Swinson to end the game.

Lucas (0-3) allowed eight runs on nine hits over six innings. Only one of the runs was earned as he walked one and struck out three. Newcomer Sam Tuivailala struck out all three River Bandits he faced in the seventh inning in his Chiefs debut. Outfielder Nick Martini took the mound for the Chiefs in the eighth and after a leadoff single he retired three straight Quad Cities batters.
