Chiefs Playoff Parade A Success

April 7, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Johnstown Chiefs News Release

Johnstown, PA - The Johnstown Chiefs don't open their home playoff schedule for over 24 hours, but the city of Johnstown's excitement is already at a fever pitch thanks, in part, to today's playoff parade.

Starting at the Point Stadium parking lot, the parade was led down Main Street by a more than unusual vehicle to see on the city streets. The War Memorial Zamboni, along with Reed and Wright from the Hot 92/Hot 100 Morning Show, Chiefs mascot Tom E. Hawk, a hoard of cheering Chiefs fans, and the Johnstown Chiefs themselves drew hundreds of fans to the sidewalks.

Somehow, a person in a Dayton Bombers jersey became a part of the procession, but Tom E. Hawk took care of the situation and made sure the Daytonian knew their presence was unwelcome.

The parade continued down Franklin St. to Vine St before finally heading down Market St., and coming to its conclusion at the War Memorial parking lot. The procession was met with smiles, cheers, and flashing cameras every step of the way, and a great time was had by all. Team Vice President, Kevin McGeehan was appreciative of all the support and assistance that helped the parade run smoothly.

"First off, the Chiefs organization has to thank the city of Johnstown, and the Johnstown Police, for allowing us to hold the parade and providing the escorts to keep everything safe. We also want to thank our great fans who marched with the team in the parade, and the hundreds who lined the sidewalks to cheer the team on, and finally Reed and Wright and the War Memorial for providing the Zamboni. Because of all of you it was a unique and fun event," said McGeehan.

The Chiefs lead the Dayton Bombers 1-0 in the North Division Quarterfinals, and look to close out the series in Game 2 tomorrow, April 8 with faceoff set for 7:05 PM. Great seats are still available and can be had by calling the War Memorial Box Office at 536-5156, or by visiting www.johnstownchiefs.com. Game 3, if necessary, will be played Wednesday, April 9 at 7:05 PM.
