News Release

The Syracuse Chiefs fell to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, 5-1, on Thursday night at NBT Bank Stadium. Logan Moore hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning to help the Pigs pull away. Meanwhile, the Chiefs bullpen combined to allow just one hit in three and one-third innings, striking out six.

Lehigh Valley (76-62) got on the board first in the third inning against Long. With one out, opposing pitcher Tom Eshelman singled into center field. One batter later, with Scott Kingery at the plate, Long threw a wild pitch, allowing Eshelman to advance to second. In the next at-bat J.P. Crawford doubled into right field, plating Eshelman and putting the IronPigs out in front 1-0.

Syracuse (53-85) struck back with a run of its own in the bottom half of the same inning versus Eshelman. With two outs, Rafael Bautista, reached on an infield single to third base. The third baseman, Angelo Mora, threw to first, but his throw sailed wide of Cam Perkins, allowing Bautista on at second. One batter later, Andrew Stevenson singled into right field, bringing Bautista in to score an unearned run and knotting the game at 1-1.

The IronPigs regained the lead in the fifth. Moore started the inning with a single into right field and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Eshelman. Two batters later, Crawford drove in his second run of the game on a single into center, scoring Moore and giving Lehigh Valley the lead back at 2-1.

One swing of the bat put Lehigh Valley further ahead in the sixth inning. Andrew Pullin led off the frame by hitting a fly ball into shallow right field. Stevenson lost the ball mid-flight which allowed Pullin to hustle into second with a lead-off double. After Long erased the next two batters, Herlis Rodriguez walked. In the next at-bat, Moore hit a three-run, two-out home run, his second home run of the series, over the right-field fence to increase the IronPigs' lead to 5-1.

The Chiefs open their final series of the season on Friday night versus the Buffalo Bisons at 7:05 p.m. at NBT Bank Stadium. Jacob Turner is slated to take the mound for Syracuse opposite Chris Rowley for Buffalo.
