Peoria, IL - Allowing seven run in the top of the eighth inning, the Peoria Chiefs lost 12-4 to the Clinton LumberKings on Friday night. The loss dropped the Chiefs to 31-27 and three games behind Beloit for the final playoff spot in the Western Division heading into their series against Quad Cities.

The LumberKings scored an early run against Kyle Helisek to lead 1-0 after the first inning. With one out Ketel Marte singled and moved to third on a Dario Pizzano base knock. Taylor Ard grounded into a force out at second as the Chiefs just missed turning the double play and Marte scored to give Clinton the game's first run.

The Chiefs answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the first. Breyvic Valera singled to lead off the frame and stole second with Ildemaro Vargas batting. Valera advanced to third on a Vargas ground out and scored on a Jacob Wilson double. Wilson's team-leading 46th RBI tied the score at 1-1.

Clinton jumped back on top with a run in the top half of the third frame. Jabari Henry led off with a single and moved to second on a bunt hit by Marte. On a Pizzano grounder to short, Henry scored on a throwing error by Vargas, putting the LumberKings up 2-1. Helisek escaped the inning without allowing run after Pizzano was thrown out at the plate by Nick Martini on a Kivlehan fly out.

The LumberKings padded their lead with a run in the fifth frame. With two outs Marte reached on a Carson Kelly throwing error, and stole second with Pizzano up. With the hit and run on Pizzano singled to left to plate Marte and extend Clinton's lead to 3-1.

The LumberKings added to their total in the seventh inning against reliever Michael Aldrete. Tim Lopes reached first base on a fielder's choice and advanced to second on a wild pitch. He moved to third on a Henry ground out, and scored on a Marte single to center. After Marte advanced to second on a Pizzano walk, Taylor Ard singled to left field to score Marte after Charlie Tilson narrowly missed a diving catch. Pizzano attempted to score from first on the play and was thrown out by Vargas keeping LumberKings lead at 5-1.

The Chiefs cut the lead in half with two runs in the seventh inning. Against Bake Hauser, Patrick Wisdom led off with his second walk of the game and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Tilson reached on an infield single as Wisdom moved to third. Wisdom scored as Kivlehan misplayed a Martini ground ball, and Tilson scored as Jesus Montero grounded into a double play shrinking the LumberKings lead to 5-3.

The LumberKings put the game out of reach with a seven-run eighth inning. Kivlehan singled to lead off and scored on a Marcus Littlewood double. After Littlewood advanced on wild pitch by newly inserted Dixon Llorens, Guerrero walked to put runners at the corners. Littlewood scored after Montero misplayed Vargas's throw home, and a Lopes walk loaded the bases. Henry walked to score Guerrero, and following a Marte strikeout, Pizzano walked to score Hebert. With Robert Stock in, Ard doubled to right bringing in Lopes, Henry and Pizzano to make the score 12-3 LumberKings.

The Chiefs got one run back in the bottom of the ninth inning. After pitcher Rusty Shelhorn left with an injury, Kelly homered to left off Matt Vedo. His second home run of the year provided a final score of 12-4.

Helisek (4-2) allowed three runs (two earned) on eight hits and one walk in six innings while fanning one. Aldrete allowed four runs (three earned) on four hits and two walks in one inning. Llorens lasted 1/3 of an inning giving up five runs on no hits and four walks with one strikeout. Stock pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up no runs on one hit and one walk while striking out one.
