Kansas City Mavericks News Release

INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Chicago Wolves, have assigned forwards Riley Emmerson and Trevor Kell to the Mavericks. Mavericks' forward Brian Bicek and defenseman Matt McCready were also released from the Wolves' camp. The Mavericks are currently at 22 players signed to their pre-season roster, and the team will open up training camp on Oct. 8 at Independence Events Center.

"The affiliation with the Chicago Wolves is a huge asset to our franchise, our players and our staff," said Mavericks' Head Coach Scott Hillman. "This season, due to the NHL lockout, there was also a significant presence by the Vancouver Canucks management and scouting staff who are very interested in what we are doing here in Missouri and are excited to have us as part of their extended family."

Bicek and McCready were signed by the Mavericks for the 2012-13 season and invited to attend the Wolves training camp. McCready had the Wolves lone goal in Monday's pre-season shootout loss to the Peoria Rivermen.

"Our players are seeing the benefits of this affiliation and have been granted the opportunity to showcase themselves to NHL and AHL scouts," remarked Hillman. "This season two of our players also gained valuable experience practicing and playing with players that have had and certainly will have careers in the NHL. Brian Bicek and Matt McCready both represented our organization very well over the past week in Chicago."

Emmerson, 26 (2/7/86), recorded four goals, eight points and 181 penalty minutes in 66 games with the ECHL's Utah Grizzlies and Toledo Walleye last season. A 6-foot-8, 248-pound forward, accrued five penalty minutes in three AHL outings with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers during the 2010-11 season. He also appeared in 46 ECHL contests with Utah that year collecting two assists and 142 penalty minutes.

The Vancouver, British Columbia native is a seventh round pick (199th overall) of the Minnesota Wild in the 2005 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft. Emmerson has totaled 112 penalty minutes in 46 AHL games with Rochester, Springfield and Bridgeport. He has also tallied 23 points (9-1423) and 646 penalty minutes in 252 career games in the ECHL with the Texas Wildcatters, Florida Everblades, Stockton Thunder, Utah and Toledo spanning six seasons (2006-12).

"Riley Emmerson is a very intimidating figure and will be a welcomed addition to our franchise," added Hillman. "He is very excited to join our club and we expect Riley to be a favorite in the locker room and our fans are sure to love his no-nonsense, hard-nosed style of play."

Kell, 26 (6/23/86), spent the 2011-12 campaign with Fassa of Italy's Serie A where he ranked first on the team with 25 assists and third with 36 points and 11 goals in 45 games played. The Thunder Bay, Ontario native split the 2010-11 season between the AHL's Albany Devils and ECHL's Trenton Devils. He had three points (1-23) and six penalty minutes in 21 outings with Albany and 33 points (14-1933) in 37 tilts with Trenton.

Overall, the 6-foot, 185-pound forward has skated in 37 career AHL games with the Lowell Devils and Albany and has accrued 12 points (5-712) and 14 penalty minutes. He has also amassed 66 goals, 89 assists and 155 points in 207 career ECHL games with Trenton over the course of four seasons (2007-11).

"Trevor Kell is an explosive hockey player," said Hillman. "He has significant AHL experience, is a former ECHL captain and plays the game with passion and grit. Trevor will be a real leader for us this season."

The Missouri Mavericks will begin their fourth season of play in the Central Hockey League in October 2012. Season tickets are on sale now and start at just under $11 per game.
