CHICAGO, May 29, 2009 - The Chicago Sky continues preparation for the 2009 WNBA season with a special exhibition game against the Hollywood celebrities of the Entertainment League (E-League), including Oscar-nominated actor Michael Clarke Duncan, rapper Nelly, and "Scrubs" star Donald Faison in the first-ever "Basketball Battle of the Sexes."
The Sky will take on the E-League stars on Tuesday, June 2, at 7:00pm, at UIC Pavilion. The game will be played according to WNBA rules, utilizing the three-point line, shot clock, and an official WNBA basketball. WNBA referees will officiate.
The Sky will start the team's fourth season on the road Saturday, June 6, against the Minnesota Lynx. The home opener will be played at UIC Pavilion on Friday, June 12, at 7:30pm, against the Atlanta Dream.
Special game nights for the Sky this season include: "Go Red for Women," June 27, against Washington; "Go Green Night," July 10, against Indiana; Camp Day Activation, July 22, against New York; "Breast Cancer Awareness Night," August 28, against New York; and Fan Appreciation Night, Sept. 12, against Detroit.
Joining the team for the 2009 WNBA season is a talented group of new signings, including two draft picks and international star Chen Nan, who led the Chinese Women in scoring and rebounding in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. The Sky's first-round draft pick, Kristi Toliver, was an All-American guard for the Maryland Terrapins. The core of the Sky's lineup includes returning veterans, Sylvia Fowles (center), Candice Dupree (forward), and Jia Perkins (guard).
