Chicago Fire Welcome Club America for International Friendly

July 8, 2013 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Chicago Fire FC News Release

The Chicago Fire (6-8-3; 21 points) welcome Liga MX champions Club América to Toyota Park for an international friendly presented by TrueCar on Wednesday, July 10 at 7:30 p.m. CT (ESPN/ESPN Deportes). The Fire return to MLS action when they head west to take on the Vancouver Whitecaps on Sunday, July 14 at 6:00 p.m. CT (My50/La Ley 107.9).

Advance tickets for the match are available by calling 888-MLS-Fire, by visiting www.Chicago-Fire.com or Ticketmaster. The international friendly will serve as Bonus Game 1 in the Fire Season Ticket and Ten Game packages. The first 5,000 fans in the gates will receive a TrueCar car magnet.

This is the third consecutive year that the Fire will welcome a Mexican opponent to Toyota Park. In 2011, the Fire took on Chivas de Guadalajara in front of a crowd of more than 18,000. A 61st minute goal by Jorge Mora would prove the difference as Chivas de Guadalajara escaped with a 1-0 victory. On Sept. 8, 2012 the goals from Michael Videira and Corben Bone led the Men in Red to a 2-2 draw with Club Santos Laguna.

Sunday's match between the Fire and Whitecaps is the only regular season meeting between the two sides this season. The Fire took on the Whitecaps in the final match of the 2013 Carolina Challenge Cup. Chris Rolfe's 57th minute helped the Fire to the 1-1 draw on Saturday, Feb. 23.

MIKE MAGEE NAMED TO 2013 MLS ALL-STAR FAN XI

Major League Soccer announced Sunday that Fire forward Mike Magee has been named to the 2013 MLS All-Star Fan XI. The MLS All-Stars will face Italian giants AS Roma at Sporting Park in Kansas City,

Kan. on Wednesday July 31 in the 2013 MLS All-Star Game at 8:00 p.m. CT (ESPN2/UniMas).

The Fan XI received the most votes at their respective positions from combined fan voting on three platforms - online at MLSsoccer.com, via text message, and via Twitter. The ballot consisted of at least

six players from each club, as chosen by a panel of media members.

The All-Star nod is the first of Magee's 11-year MLS career. The two-time MLS Cup champion with the Galaxy joined the Fire on May 25, 2013 and has scored seven goals in his first seven matches across all

competitions. Magee's four goals and two assists in MLS play have led the Fire to a 4-0-1 run since joining the club. Named MLS Player of the Month for March and June, Magee currently sits tied for first

place in the tightly-contested MLS Golden Boot race with 11 goals on the season.

A Chicago, Ill. native, Magee was the fourth overall selection in the 2003 MLS SuperDraft by the then New York/New Jersey MetroStars after a two-year stay at the U.S. Soccer Residency program in

Bradenton, Fla. After six seasons with the New York side, Magee headed west when he was acquired by the Galaxy prior to the start of the 2009 season. The 28-year-old has 46 career goals and 26 assists in

240 career regular season games.

The 11th player - a forward - on the Fan XI will be decided on July 11, as part of the AT&T MLS All-Star "˜In the Game' Challenge. Among the remaining forwards on the ballot, the player with whom fans score

the most goals in FIFA Soccer 13, with one goal equaling one vote, from July 3-July 10 will be named to the Fan XI. Fire forward Chris Rolfe is one of the 26 players that are eligible to be voted in via the

FIFA 13 game.
