Chicago Fire Goalkeeper Sean Johnson Named to U.S. Men's National Team Squad

CHICAGO, Ill. (Feb. 4, 2013) - The Chicago Fire Soccer Club announced Monday that goalkeeper Sean Johnson has been selected by U.S. Men's National Team Head Coach Jurgen Klinsmann for the upcoming FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Honduras at Estadio Olimpico in San Pedro Sula, Honduras on Wednesday, Feb. 6 at 3:00 p.m. CT (beIN SPORT).

The United States is one of the six CONCACAF nations competing in the final round of qualifying for a berth in the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Johnson earned his first start for the U.S. Men's National Team in a 0-0 draw with Canada at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston, Texas Jan. 29. Johnson played the full 90 minutes, earning the shutout.

A Lilburn, Ga. product, Johnson made his international debut Jan 22, 2011 against Chile at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. and has been capped three times.

The 23-year-old "˜keeper enters his fourth season as a professional after a 2012 season where he appeared in a career-high 31 regular season games for the Men in Red, accumulating a 16-10-5 record, including five shutouts. Johnson's 1.24 goals against average was the lowest in his professional career. Johnson made 108 saves in 2012, including a career-high ten saves against the San Jose Earthquakes July 28.

Following the match, Johnson will join the Fire for the second leg of preseason training camp in Ventura, Calif.

The Fire host Opening Day at Toyota Park against the New England Revolution on Saturday, March 9 at 6:30 p.m. CT (NBC Sports Network). The Men in Red will begin their 16th season on the road the previous week when they visit two-time defending MLS Cup Champions LA Galaxy at the Home Depot Center on Sunday, March 3 at 4:00 p.m. CT (Univision).
