Chicago Fire FC News Release

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill.- The Chicago Fire won their 2016 home finale 2-1 against the New England Revolution on Sunday at Toyota Park.

Michael de Leeuw struck first nine minutes into the first half, but the Revolution answered two minutes before the halftime whistle. David Accam netted the game-winner in the 80th minute with both teams playing with 10 men due to separate red cards.

Chicago took an early lead thanks to a classy finish from de Leeuw. David Accam eluded a defender near the box and then slipped a pass to Brandon Vincent on the left. Vincent sent a centering pass in front of goal that found de Leeuw open on a run. The Dutch striker clipped his shot from close-range for his sixth goal of the season.

New England equalized just before halftime after Diego Fagundez booted deflected ball into the net from the top of the box.

The game took a new shape with red cards in the second half. Luis Solignac was sent off for a foul in the 54th minute, giving New England a temporary one-man advantage. However, goalkeeper Brad Knighton received a red of his own after taking Accam down by the shorts outside the box.

Accam tallied the game's final goal with his trademark display of speed. Jonathan Campbell played a long pass over the Revolution back line, allowing Accam to sprint to the ball and create a one-on-one situation with New England's new keeper, Bobby Shuttleworth. The result was Accam's ninth goal of the season and three points for Chicago.

The Fire play their final game of the season against Toronto FC at BMO Field on Sunday, Oct. 23. Kickoff is 3 p.m. CT on CSN Chicago and 97.5 FM Poder.
