Chicago Fire and Quaker Oats Announce Winning "Heart On Your Sleeve"

October 8, 2013 - Major League Soccer (MLS) - Chicago Fire FC News Release

CHICAGO, Ill. - The Chicago Fire Soccer Club and The Quaker Oats Company, a subsidiary of PepsiCo, Inc., announced that Freddy Christiano's municipal-themed, "Heart on Your Sleeve" third kit design is the winner of the #cf97ThirdKit design contest. A Chicago-based architect, Christiano incorporated the city flag as well as the iconic Chicago skyline into his winning third kit design.

"Congratulations to Freddy and his unique take on incorporating the city into his design," said Chicago Fire Chief Operation Officer Atul Khosla. "Our goal throughout this process was to collaborate with our supporters and I want to thank all who participated - the number of designs, votes and overall response far exceeded our expectations."

The club partnered with iconic jersey sponsor The Quaker Oats Company in July to launch the #cf97ThirdKit design contest, asking Fire supporters to submit designs for the jersey the Fire plans to unveil at the club's Anniversary game in 2014. After a judging panel of Fire and Quaker representatives narrowed the entries down to five designs, fans ultimately had the final say in determining the winning kit via a fan vote. Tens of thousands of votes were cast, and Christiano's design emerged as the majority winner.

Christiano's design will become a part of Fire history and is scheduled to make its debut for the Anniversary game in 2014, in addition to other future matchday opportunities. Christiano will also receive round trip airfare and accommodations for two to attend the Fire's match against the Portland Timbers in 2014, including a private tour of the adidas campus in Portland, an opportunity to meet with adidas jersey designers and $500.00 to spend at the adidas employee store.
