Charlotte Checkers News Release

CHARLOTTE, NC –The Charlotte Checkers finished up their season series against the Greenville Grrrowl Friday night, when they tamed the Grrrowl 4-1 in front of 5167 fans at Cricket Arena. The Checkers ended their season against the Grrrowl 5-0 at home and 8-10 overall.

A fist ballet in the first between Ryan Glenn and GreenvilleÂ’s Simon Ferguson gave the Checkers a power play, but they were unable to deliver. It wasnÂ’t until later that Dusty Jamieson stepped up and scored his 30th of the season on a two man advantage with 1:54 remaining in the period. Credit the assists to Dwight Helminen and Rory Rawlyk. The Checkers hammered Greenville goalie Mike Morrison, outshooting the Grrrowl 15-2 in the first period.

Greenville answered in the second tying the game 1-1 at 18:50 of the period off a Richard Pitirri shot, that evaded Checkers goaltender Alex Westlund. The score remained tied through the second, and the Checkers once again outshot the Grrrowl 13-9.

After two relatively slow periods of play, Charlotte came out strong in the third period. Juris Stals scored his 18th goal of the season and continued his four game goal streak, just 2:05 into the third period. Glenn and Ryan Lang were there for the assists. Less than a minute later, Jamieson took a pass from Helminen, scoring his second goal of the evening. The Checkers continued their assault on the Grrrowl when Stals lit the lamp for the second time with the help of Ryan Cuthbert at 13:06 of the period securing the 4-1 victory against Greenville.

Tomorrow, Saturday, April 9th, at 7 PM the Checkers battle the South Carolina Stingrays. All fans in attendance will receive a subscription to the Sporting News.
