Checkers Announce Initial Training Camp Roster

October 1, 2016 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Charlotte Checkers News Release

CHARLOTTE, NC - The Charlotte Checkers today announced an initial roster for their training camp that begins this Monday, Oct. 3, at Extreme Ice Center in Indian Trail. A roster and schedule are attached to this release.

The most recent additions to the 15-player roster come from the NHL's Carolina Hurricanes, who assigned five from their own training camp on Saturday: goaltender Daniel Altshuller, defenseman Josh Wesley and forwards Clark Bishop, Kyle Hagel and Erik Karlsson.

Joining that group will be players signed to AHL contracts with the Checkers - goaltender Anthony Peters, defenseman Kevin Raine and forwards Mitchell Heard, Levko Koper and Mike Ferrantino. Rounding out the group are forwards Matt Berry, Brant Harris, Mike Kirkpatrick, John McCarron and Dalton Smith - all of whom are attending camp on a tryout basis.

Saturday's assignments leave the Hurricanes with 46 players still at training camp. The Hurricanes and Checkers open their regular seasons on Oct. 13 and 14, respectively.
