CHC IF Candelario, DET IF Jones AFL Week 1 Co-Players of the Week

Phoenix, Arizona - Mesa Solar Sox IF Jeimer Candelario (Cubs) and Scottsdale Scorpions IF JaCoby Jones (Tigers) are the Arizona Fall League's week one co-players of the week.

Candelario - MLB.com's No. 19 Cubs prospect rode a five-hit performance that included two homers and four RBI on Friday to take the league lead in batting (.800), hits (8), doubles (4), on-base percentage (.818), slugging percentage (1.800) and extra-base hits (6).

The 21-year-old infielder also posted a three-hit effort earlier in the week.

The New York City native was signed by the Cubs on September 29, 2010 as a non-drafted free agent. He hit .270 in 82 games at High-A Myrtle Beach and .291 in 46 games at Double-A Tennessee in 2015.

In his five-year professional career, Candelario, 6-1, 210, is a .257 hitter in 454 games.

Jones - MLB.com's No. 10 Tigers prospect, acquired by Detroit in a July trade that sent reliever Joakim Soria to Pittsburgh, began his first Fall League season with a roar, homering twice with four RBI on Opening Day and recording four hits the following day.

The 23-year- old Chickasha, OK native was drafted in the third round (87th overall) by the Pirates in 2013 following his final season at Louisiana State University.

Prior to this summer's trade, the 6-2, 205-pound infielder hit .253 with 10 homers and 58 RBI in 93 games at High-A Bradenton. After appearing in three games for Pittsburgh's Double-A affiliate at Altoona, Jones joined the Detroit organization at Double-A Erie where he batted .250 in 37 games.

Other Nominees for Player of the Week - Peoria IF D.J. Peterson (Mariners), Surprise C Gary Sanchez (Yankees) and Salt River IF Rowdy Tellez (Blue Jays).

It plays six days per week (Monday-Saturday) at five spring- training stadiums in the Phoenix metropolitan area - Camelback Ranch- Glendale (Glendale Desert Dogs), Sloan Park (Mesa Solar Sox), Salt River Fields (defending champion Salt River Rafters and Surprise Rafters) and Scottsdale Stadium (Scottsdale Scorpions).
