Sacramento River Cats News Release

RENO, Nev. - Scott Moore helped stake Sacramento to an 11-2 lead with four hits in his first four at-bats, and the River Cats held on for a 15-11 win over the Reno Aces on Saturday night at Aces Ballpark.

Sacramento scored in double digits for the second-straight night at hitter-friendly Aces Ballpark, but Reno staged a late-inning comeback, cutting a nine-run deficit to one. Trailing 12-11 in the eighth, the Aces had the tying run on base, but River Cats reliever Dan Otero stranded him there to preserve the one-run lead. After the River Cats tacked on three insurance runs in the ninth, Otero held on for his first save of the season, keeping Reno off the board and giving the Cats their third-straight win.

Sonny Gray (1-0) earned his first-career Triple-A win, allowing three earned runs in five innings of work, striking out five and walking three. Otero retired four of the five batters he faced, maintaining his perfect ERA on the 2013 season.

The loss fell to Aces starter Tyler Skaggs (1-1), who was roughed up for nine earned runs in 2.1 innings, giving up eight hits and walking three.

The story of the game was the Sacramento offense, which put up 15 runs a night after a 16-run effort. Moore led the charge, finishing 4-for-5, while Daric Barton added two hits and drove in four runs. The bottom five hitters in the River Cats lineup combined to go 12-for-23 with 10 RBIs, while Michael Choice drew three walks and scored three times.

The two teams square off again Sunday afternoon, when River Cats lefty Andrew Werner (0-2, 12.10 ERA) is scheduled to start against RHP Nelson Figueroa (0-0, 6.75 ERA). First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. from Aces Ballpark.

The River Cats return home on April 20 for an eight-game homestand against the Reno Aces and Salt Lake Bees.
