Edmonton Capitals News Release
Edmonton, AB-The Edmonton Cracker-Cats received a jem of a game from their starter, Chris Cullen, who did not allow a run in the 8 innings he pitched, to sting the Scorpions 3-0. In one of the quickest games of the season, the game ended at at 9:14, sending the 657 fans at TELUS Field home happy with their team's performance.
Cullen maintained great pitch control for much of the game and in the process, kept his perfect season intact, increasing his record to 4-0.
Starting for the Scorpions was Mike Megrew. He went 6.0 innings, giving up 4 hits, with 5 strikeouts, for his first loss on the season.
The Cats fourth inning produced all the run support they would need tonight, as Ruddy Yan lead off with a triple. Carlos Arroyo brought him home with a long, high fly ball into left field. Chris Van Rossum scored the second run of that inning, after Johnathan Castro sent the ball deep into right field.
D. Stringer relieved Megrew in the 7th, he allowed 4 hits, but kept the score close for a late inning Scorpions comeback.
Cats closer, Pete Sikaras came in to close out the game in the ninth. He continued where Cullen left off for his 13th save of the season.
On a sour note, Marcus Nettles 28 game hit streak came to an end tonight.
