Iowa Cubs News Release

Des Moines, IA - The Chicago Cubs selected the contract of catcher Tim Federowicz today, filling the roster spot of Miguel Montero who has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with lower back tightness. Right-hand reliever Brandon Gomes was activated from the temporary inactive list to take the empty spot on Iowa's 25-man roster.

Federowicz was batting .303 through 11 appearances for Iowa this season. With an on-base percentage of .415, he ranked fourth out of active I-Cubs' players at the time of his promotion.

Federowicz totaled 89 major league contests with the Dodgers from 2011-2014 and tallied a .194 batting average. His last big league contest was against Colorado on Sept. 27, 2014 as he was sideline due to injury through all of 2015.

Gomes is 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA through 9.0 innings pitched with Iowa this season. He has nine strikeouts and has given up just four hits during his 2016 campaign.

Iowa and Colorado Springs play the first of a four-game series at 6:38 tonight at Principal Park. Promotions include Mug Club and Kyle Schwarber Jersey Night. For more information or tickets, visit www.iowacubs.com.
