Daytona Tortugas News Release

DAYTONA BEACH, FL - Carlos Castro homered three times in Florida's 14-2 win over the Daytona Tortugas Wednesday morning at Radiology Associates Field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark in front of 1,864 school children on Education Day. Florida won the final two games of the set to take the series.

Daytona started the scoring in the bottom of the first, when Shed Long doubled home Alfredo Rodriguez two batters into the game. However, the Tortugas would only score once more the rest of the day. That was in the third, when Gavin LaValley drove home his 22nd RBI of the year with a ground ball to second.

Florida, sporting the top offense in the league, took over from there. The Fire Frogs took the lead they would never surrender in the second frame. Carlos Castro hit his first home run of the day, a two run shot to left field on an 0-2 pitch.

Florida would add another run in the inning before Castro was back at it in the third. He hammered his second two-run, two-strike homer off the batting cage in left field against RHP Jesus Reyes. The tape measure shot was clocked at 435 feet.

Florida scored five runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by Castro's third home run of the day. This time, it took just one pitch for the designated hitter to leave the ballpark. Florida would tack on two more in each of the next two stanzas to cruise to the series win.

Reyes (3-1) suffered his first setback, allowing eight runs and hits in four innings, his shortest outing of the year. LHP Drew Harrington (4-2) earned the win, allowing two unearned runs in his five innings.

The Tortugas hit the road to begin a three game series in Dunedin beginning on Thursday. Daytona will throw LHP Ty Boyles (2-2, 3.63) against RHP TJ Zeuch (2-1, 2.25). First pitch will be at 6:30 PM with the Metcare Pregame Show starting at 6:15 PM on AM 1230 and AM 1490 WSBB.
