 Hartford Yard Goats

Castellani Big League Performance Bests Lugo

May 28, 2017 - Eastern League (EL1)
Hartford Yard Goats News Release

Binghamton, NY- New York Mets pitcher Seth Lugo was on a rehabilitation assignment, but it was the Yard Goats' Ryan Castellani who pitched like a big leaguer, hurling Hartford to a 3-2 win Sunday night. The win snapped the Yard Goats' four-game losing streak and ended Binghamton's seven-game winning streak.

Yard Goats's second baseman Ryan McMahon threw out Champ Stuart at home plate to end the game. The pinch runner, who leads the Eastern League in stolen bases, tried to score from second base, when McMahon overran a ground ball hit by Gustavo Nunez. The play preserved Castellani's best performance of the season. The righthander turned in his longest outing, eight innings and allowed one run on six hits. He didn't walk anybody and struck out three, to improve to 4-4. All four of his wins have come on the road.

Lugo, officially on the Mets' 60-day disabled list with a partial tear in the UCL of his right elbow, sailed through the first three innings. Hartford scored all of its runs off of Lugo in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Correlle Prime, a bases loaded walk to Dom Nunez and a perfectly executed suicide squeeze by Castellani with the bases loaded.

Prime and McMahon each had three hits to pace the Yard Goats attack. James Farris pitched the thrilling ninth inning to record his eighth save.

The series and eight-game road trip wrap up Monday afternoon at 1:05. It will be a battle of lefthanders as Jeff Wyncoop will pitch for the Yard Goats against P.J. Conlon for the Rumble Ponies. The game can be heard on AM 1410 WPOP and on iHeart Radio.
