Everett Silvertips News Release
MOOSE JAW, Saskatchewan - Everett Silvertips goaltender Carter Hart stopped all 20 shots and became the third goaltender in history to post a full 60-minute shutout at CIBC Canada Russia Series as Team Canada blanked Russia, 7-0 in the series opener at Mosaic Place on Monday night.
Televised coverage of the Canada-Russia Series will be available on NHL Network, with tape delayed coverage of the game airing at 7:00 a.m. PT on Tuesday, Nov. 7.
Hart, aiming to make back-to-back appearances with Team Canada at the upcoming World Junior Championships, made nine saves in the second period and turned away several high-grade chances by Russia in the opening minutes.
The Silvertips goaltender has 87 wins and 19 shutouts in the WHL, both second on the franchise's all-time list. The reigning back-to-back WHL Goaltender of the Year returned to the Silvertips lineup last Friday and made 23 saves in his home debut, a 3-1 win over Prince George.
"We had a good start to the game, that's what we carried on throughout the whole game," said Canada forward Kole Lind. "They had little spurts of their chances, but we definitely capitalized when we needed to and Hartsy [Carter Hart] definitely stood out tonight too."
Lind paced Canada with a pair of goals and an assist. Hart provided a trio of big saves off Russian attackers Vladislav Kara, Artyom Manukyan and Maxim Tsyplakov in the opening half of the first frame before Lind opened the scoring for Team WHL at 13:31.
Team WHL led 1-0 after 20 minutes and WHL scoring leader Tyler Steenbergen (Swift Current Broncos) wrapped up a four-goal second period with 36 seconds left on the clock as Dillon Dube (Kelowna Rockets) centered for Sam Steel (Regina Pats) before the puck found the stick of an open Steenbergen who provided the finish to make the score 5-0 after 40 minutes.
Cody Glass, at 1:59, and Dube, at 4:59 each scored early in the third period.
Team WHL wraps up its portion of the Canada Russia Series on Tuesday night in Swift Current. The Silvertips return to play on Friday for a two-game series in Prince George, facing the Cougars at 7:00 p.m.
