Carter Bell Has Big Day as Hawks Sweep Double Header From Captains

South Bend, IN - South Bend (41-17) swept the Captains (20-37) in a double header on Thursday. The Silver Hawks won game one 6-1 and game two 5-2. For the Hawks, Carter Bell had a total of four hits on the day and five RBI's to fuel the wins.
Lake County got one run in game one and it was a solo homerun by Richard Stock in the fifth inning. Stock's blast was his second of the season and prevented the shutout. In game two, The Captains had just two hits. One of the hits was a double by Stock and the other was a seventh inning double by Logan Vick. Erick Gonzalez had the only RBI of game two with a sac fly.
South Bend won game won by scoring a run in the second inning and then enjoyed a five run third inning. In the five run frame, Bell had the big hit. With the bases loaded, Bell lined a ball down the Left Field line and all the runners came into score. At the time, the score was 6-0.
The Silver Hawks had another big inning in game two. The Captains were leading headed into the bottom of the fifth by a score of 2-1. South Bend scored three runs and took the 4-2 lead. In the inning, the first four hitters reached and the big hit cam off the bat of the number nine hitter Pedro Ruiz. Ruiz's single tied the game at 2-2 and set up the Hawks to score more.
The Captains sent RHP Jake Sisco (2-5) to the mound for game one. Sisco took the loss after pitching just three innings. Sisco allowed four hits, six runs and two earned runs. Jake walked four and struck out three. DJ Brown finished off game one for the Captains pitching a scoreless final three innings. In game two, Josh Martin (2-4) got the start and did not get a decision. Martin pitched three innings, and allowed three hits and just the solo homerun to Bell. Benny Suarez (1-1) took the loss. Suarez pitched two innings and allowed three hits, and three earned runs. Suarez also committed an error, which allowed a run to score. Louis Head pitched one inning and allowed one run on one hit.
South Bend gave the ball to RHP Brandon Sinnery (3-2) in game one. Sinnery pitched a complete game seven innings, and allowed just three hits, and one run. The only run was the homer by Stock. Sinnery walked just one and fanned four. In game two, Blake Perry (3-2) earned the win. Perry pitched five plus innings, and allowed one hit. Perry allowed two runs; only one was earned, with five walks and five strikeouts. RJ Hively picked up his 16th save in 17 chances by pitching a scoreless seventh.
Friday, the four game series concludes as the Captains will send Dylan Baker (1-4, 5.02) to the mound against Kyle Winkler (1-0, 0.00) first pitch is at 7:35 PM from Stanley Coveleski Regional Stadium in South Bend, Indiana.
