Carroll's Hat Trick Powers Hot Checkers Past 'Blades

ESTERO, FL - The Charlotte Checkers got four goals in the second period en route to a 6-2 victory on Tuesday night in Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte, North Carolina. Andrew Carroll led the way for the Checkers with a hat trick while David Marshall chipped in a goal and an assist.

The Checkers got on the scoreboard first just four and a half minutes into the contest. Tysen Dowzak kept in a Florida clearing opportunity at the left point and threw the puck to a wide open Andrew Carroll who backhanded a shot past Chris Beckford-Tseu and into the 'Blades net. Leading goal scorer Carroll registered his 26th of the season while Dowzak picked up his third assist. That would be the lone goal of the period and the Checkers held a 1-0 edge after the opening 20 minutes.

Charlotte outscored Florida 4-0 in the second stanza dominating the period outshooting the Everblades 18-3. The Checkers scored two even-strength goals, a shorthanded tally and a power-play goal in the middle frame. David Marshall, Matt Schepke and Andrew Carroll scored the shorthanded and power-play tally to complete his hat trick and give the Checkers a 5-0 advantage. Through two periods the Everblades were held to just 10 shots by the Checkers.

The Everblades outscored the Checkers 2-1 in the third period. Mike Bayrack and Ross Carlson registered tallies for Florida who cut the Charlotte deficit to three goals midway through the period but could get no closer. Matt Stefanishion extended the Checker lead to four with six minutes remaining and Charlotte would go on to win 6-2.

The Florida Everblades play their final regular-season road game in Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte this Thursday, March 25 against the Charlotte Checkers. The Everblades travel onto The Arena at the Gwinnett Center to face off against the Gwinnett Gladiators Saturday and Sunday, March 27 & 28.
