Carrick Commits to Penn State

Ralston, NE -- Omaha Lancers defenseman Hunter Carrick has committed to play college hockey at Penn State University Thursday morning.

"It is a tremendous honor," Carrick said. "I could not be more excited to be a Nittany Lion."

Carrick, a native of Orland Park, IL started this season with the Johnstown Tomahawks. While playing there the young defenseman totaled 6 points in 16 games.

"The NAHL helped me prepare for the USHL," Carrick said. "My time in the NAHL was short-lived, but I cherished every day I was there. It was a blast."

Carrick was then traded to the Lancers late October and has been a huge key to the then-struggling Omaha defense.

"The USHL is where I wanted to be all along, the goal is to keep climbing the ladder and this was a step in the right direction," Carrick said. "I will continue working hard so when the day comes that I head to Penn State I am more than ready and capable to dominate."

Since then, the Lancers have been 7-2-1-0 in the past 10 games. Carrick has become a vital part of that electric Lancers defense playing in 10 games totaling 5 points. Carrick has also found success from the blue line with his NHL style play.

"Penn State noticed my type of play; skilled, consistent player who plays with grit and needs to win," Hunter said. "They pursued me because they saw a skilled, intelligent player who plays with jam."

Hunter then talked more about what attracted him to play at Penn State.

"I got to see first hand the culture that they are building there [Penn State]," Carrick said, "The Coaching staff is what put them at my number one spot, they are unbelievable coaches and people. I felt very comfortable there, which is very important."
