Carrera, Halman honored by Southern League

PEARL, MISS. (AUGUST 31, 2009) - West Tenn outfielder's, Ezequiel Carrera and Greg Halman were selected to the 2009 Southern League Postseason All-Star Team as voted upon by the league's field managers, radio broadcasters and print media. Carrera, a mid-season All-Star selection as well is leading the league with a .340 batting average and .442 on-base percentage. Carrera has collected 105 hits in 309 at-bats in 85 games this season for the Jaxx. Halman, selected as a designated hitter, currently leads the Southern League with 25 homeruns. Halman, a two time Southern League hitter of the week this season has homered in four of his last seven games and is currently hitting .216.

Also, the award for the Southern League's Most Valuable Player was given to Montgomery Biscuit's outfielder, Desmond Jennings. The Southern League's Most Outstanding Pitcher was awarded to Carolina Mudcat's pitcher, Travis Wood.
