Carolina Rhinos Ready For Showdowns With Columbus

GREENVILLE, SC – The League office of arenafootball2 and the Carolina Rhinos have announced several changes to the team’s roster. Offensive / defensive lineman Mike Byrley has been placed on the team’s suspended list for personal reasons. Defensive specialist Arkeee Thompson, fullback / linebacker Rashaan Kearny and wide receiver / defensive back Robert Garth have placed on the inactive list. Offensive / defensive lineman Marco Walder has been placed on the short-term injured reserve with a hip pointer injury. Defensive specialist Surhaver Fair has been placed back on the active roster. Defensive specialist Larenzo Ferguson, offensive / defensive lineman Jeff Chambers and fullback / linebacker Rufus Williams have been assigned to the team and added to the active roster.

Ferguson is a 6Â’1Â’Â’ 200-pound, second-year professional from Virginia Tech. He played for the Canadian Football LeagueÂ’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers last season. Chambers is a 6Â’1Â’Â’ 300-pound rookie from Western Carolina. Williams is a 6Â’1Â’Â’ 230-pound rookie from Mississippi Valley State who has been with the National Indoor Football LeagueÂ’s Mississippi Fire Dogs for part of this season.

The Rhinos will visit the Columbus Wardogs tomorrow, Saturday June 29th, at 7 p.m. in the first of two games in as many weeks between the teams who will also play at the BI-LO Center in Greenville Saturday July 6th at 7:30 p.m. It will also be the first-ever meeting between the clubs who are currently tied for third place in the Eastern Division with identical 2-9 records. The game will be broadcast live on 1070 “The Sportszone” WCSZ-AM and at rhinosfootball.com beginning at 6:45 p.m. 1070 “The Sportszone” also broadcasts “Rhino Talk” featuring head coach Rod Miller and special player guests every Monday from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. live from Wild Wing Café in downtown Greenville.

The Rhinos are looking to end a six-game losing streak which includes three straight road losses. They fell 45-43 in the final seconds of their most recent game on the road versus the Roanoke Steam last Saturday. Columbus has dropped five straight games including two in a row at home. The Wardogs have lost their last four games overall at home and fell 67-51 on the road to the League-leading Augusta Stallions in their most recent game last Friday.

Following the two-game set with Columbus, the Rhinos will visit the Cape Fear Wildcats in Fayetteville, North Carolina on Saturday July 13th before finishing the regular season with two home games on Saturday July 20th at 7:30 p.m. versus the Charleston Swamp Foxes and Saturday July 27th at 7:30 p.m. versus the Richmond Speed.
