ICYMI: Matt Withrow set a new career high with 11 strikeouts while leading the Mudcats to a 3-2 victory against the Blue Rocks at Five County Stadium on Wednesday night. Sean Godfrey and Keith Curcio were both 2-for-4 with a run in the Carolina victory. Withrow (9-6, 3.80) struck out four straight to start the game and then struck out five straight between the third and fifth. He later finished his career night with a bases loaded strikeout to end the sixth while improving to 3-1 with a 1.64 ERA over six starts in August.

ON TO THE NEXT ONE: The Mudcats continue their final home stand of the 2016 season tonight with the finale of a four game series versus the Wilmington Blue Rocks at Five County Stadium. The Mudcats are 8-11 against the Blue Rocks this season, including a 5-6 record at home and a 3-5 record in Wilmington. Wilmington is 3.5 games ahead of the Mudcats for the worst overall record in the Carolina League this season.

STARTING OFF: Ryan Clark heads to the mound for tonight's series finale start against the Blue Rocks. Clark has started for Carolina 24 times this season and appeared in a total of 25 games while going 1-13 with a 5.83 ERA. He is currently 2nd in the league in most home runs allowed (16), 2nd in most losses (13) and leads the league in runs/earned runs allowed (92/84) this season. He last pitched on 8/27 in Winston-Salem and nearly turned in his ninth quality after allowing just one earned run (two total) on four hits over 5.0 innings pitched.

ALL THAT POWER: Travis Demeritte is batting .234/.366/.468 with a Carolina League high 5 triples since joining the Mudcats on 7/29. Demeritte is tied fro 2nd in the CL in XBH (15) since 7/29 including 7 doubles, 5 triples and 3 home runs. Demeritte has hit to a .234 ISO so far with the Mudcats. Bobby Bradley leads the CL in ISO this season at .240.

STRONG FINISH: Travis Demeritte is 11-for-31 (.355/.429/.677) with five runs, five doubles, one triple, one home run and three RBI over his last eight games... Jordan Edgerton is 11-for-31 (.355/.364/.581) with four doubles, one home run and eight RBI over his last eight games... Erison Mendez hit .367/.377/.483 over 19 games in August and is batting .314/.352/.413 over 40 games in the 2nd half... Keith Curcio hit .372/.455/.547 over 24 games in July and is batting .281/.373/.404 in the 2nd half... Matt Withrow went 3-1 with a 1.64 ERA over six starts in August (33.0 IP, 18 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 2 HB, 18 BB, 44 SO).

AUGUST LOWS: Only the Florida State League's Brevard County Manatees (4-25, .138, MIL) and Southern League's Birmingham Barons (5-24, .172, CWS) finished with a lower winning percentage in August than the Mudcats (6-22, .214, ATL) in Minor League Baseball. The Mudcats started August 2-0, but were 4-22 through the remainder of the month with losing streaks of 10 and in August (separated by one game).

50 BELOW: The Mudcats are one of five full season MiLB teams with fewer than 50 overall wins this season: Brevard County Manatees (38-95, .286, FSL, MIL), Dayton Dragons (45-90, .333, MWL, CIN), Inland Empire 66ers (47-88, .348, CAL, LAA), Carolina Mudcats (48-87, .356, CAR, ATL) and Birmingham Barons (49-86, .363, SOU, CWS).

RECORDS TO AVOID: The Mudcats have won a league low 48 games this season and are a league worst 48-87 (.356). Carolina's franchise record for fewest wins in a season is 52 and was set in 1992 when the Mudcats finished at just 52-92 (.361). The Mudcats also finished a season with fewer than 60 wins in 2011 (53-86, .381), 1997 (55-82, .401), 2013 (57-83, .407), 2010 (58-79, .423) and 1998 (59-80, .424)... Braxton Davidson has set a new Mudcats franchise record for strikeouts with 180 so far in 2016. Davidson passed Lee Mitchell's Mudcats record of 139 Ks (2006) in a season on 8/4. The CL record for Ks in a season is 211 and was set by Kinston's Glenallen Hill in 1985... Jordan Edgerton has struck out 127 times this season and is only 12 strikeouts away from matching Lee Mitchell's previous franchise record of 139.

DOUBLE DIGITS: Matt Withrow struck out a career high 11 batters over 6.0 plus innings on 8/31 vs. Wilmington (6.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 11 SO) and became the 54th starting pitcher in Carolina Mudcats history (1991-present) to strike out at least 10 batters in a start. Max Povse also struck out 11 in his final Mudcats start on 7/2 vs. Lynchburg (6.0 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 11 SO) and struck out 10 in a game on 5/27 vs. Frederick (5.0 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 10 SO). The franchise record for strikeouts in a single start is 13 and was first set by Stan Fansler in 1992 (8/31/92 vs. Birmingham). Scott Randall (8.0ip, 7/20/99) and Brett Backlund (2x, 8.0ip: 8/1/93 vs. Knoxville, 8.0ip: 7/12/95 vs. Huntsville) also struck out 13 in a start while pitching for the Mudcats. Withrow and Povse both matched Joseph Colon's Carolina League era (2012-present) record for strikeouts in a start with 11 (7/9/13 at Lynchburg, L, 5.0ip, 7h, 4r, 1er, 1bb, 11so).
