 Sacramento River Cats

Career Day for Williamson as River Cats Roll to Fourth Straight Win

April 24, 2016 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Sacramento River Cats News Release

TACOMA, CA - The offense continued to fire on all cylinders Sunday afternoon as the River Cats won their fourth straight, beating the Tacoma Rainiers 10-5. Rain sent both teams home early, but not before Sacramento outfielder Mac Williamson set a new career high for RBI in a single game, leading the River Cats to their fourth straight win.

Sacramento wasted no time getting on the board in Sunday's matinee contest, with Williamson roping a two-run double into the right-center gap to give the River Cats an early first-inning lead. The two-run double was one of two on the afternoon for Williamson, who crushed a bases-loaded double to straightaway center in the top half of the third. Sandwiched between those hits was a second-inning two-run single. RBI number seven for the afternoon came in the top of the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly to right field. With the 3-for-3 performance, Williamson's average for the season with Sacramento is now .385.

Williamson's previous career high for RBI in a single game was six, which he set last season on August 17 in an 11-0 nothing win over the visiting Round Rock Express. He beat that mark in just five innings today, as rain caused the game to be called after the top of the sixth inning. Mac's seven RBI are one shy of the River Cats franchise mark, set by Dan Johnson in 2004. Johnson hit .299 with 29 home runs with 111 RBI that season as Sacramento went on to win the PCL championship.

The rest of the offense was on point behind Williamson, as well, and Sacramento totaled 10 hits in the game. Ryan Lollis, who entered today's game with a career .426 batting average against Tacoma, was 1-for-2 with a walk, a hit by pitch, and three runs scored. Gorkys Hernandez collected three hits from the leadoff spot and also scored three times while Grant Green put together his third multi-hit game of the season. As a team, Sacramento is now hitting .261, sixth-best in the Pacific Coast League.

Chris Stratton picked up the win for Sacramento, improving his record to 2-2. The right-hander got off to a rocky start, giving up four runs on four hits and a walk in the bottom of the first, but settled in nicely, allowing just one more Tacoma run over the next four innings. He finished his afternoon going five innings with five earned runs on nine hits and a walk while striking out three.

Sacramento entered this series trailing the division-leading Rainiers by 7.5 games in the standings. With back-to-back wins against Tacoma, the River Cats now sit just 3.5 out of first place and just a half game back of the third place Reno Aces.

Tomorrow, River Cats' lefty Matt Lujan (0-2, 4.85) will try to push Sacramento another game closer to the top of the Pacific Northern pack. Opposite him will be Tacoma's James Paxton (1-2, 5.84). First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. and the game can be heard live online at rivercats.com. It will also air - in its entirety - on ESPN 1320 starting at 7:00 p.m.
