 Arkansas Travelers

Cards Win to Split Series

April 23, 2017 - Texas League (TL1)
Arkansas Travelers News Release

North Little Rock, AR-The Springfield Cardinals (9-7) defeated the Arkansas Travelers (8-8) by a score of 8-1 on Sunday afternoon at Dickey-Stephens Park in front of a crowd of 5,379.

The afternoon started with Springfield's Oscar Mercado hitting the first pitch of game from Andrew Moore for a homerun to left field and put the Cards in front. Springfield would add two more in the third on Nick Martini's RBI double and Bruce Caldwell's RBI grounder. The early three run lead would be more than enough cushion for Jack Flaherty.

The Travs offense had chances throughout against Flaherty but could never break through. The 21 year-old allowed six hits and a walk in six innings but kept the Travs off the board. The lone Arkansas run came in the seventh when when Kyle Petty singled, moved around on a pair of groundouts and eventually came home on a wild pitch. For the game, the Travs were 0-11 when hitting with a runner in scoring position.

Springfield put the game away with another two runs in the seventh and three more in the eighth. Six different Cardinals collected an RBI in the game.

Flaherty earned the victory to improve to 4-0 on the season. Andrew Moore (1-1) was charged with the loss surrendering three runs on nine hits over 5.2 innings with eight strikeouts.

The Travelers hit the road for eight games starting Monday night with the first of four in Tulsa against the Drillers. Righty Max Povse (3-0, 0.48) gets the call for the Travs against righty Scott Barlow (0-2, 3.55) for Tulsa. First pitch is set for 7:05 and the game will be broadcast on the Sports Animal 920, the First Pitch App, TuneIn radio and milb.tv.
