June 17, 2017 - Texas League (TL) - Arkansas Travelers
Springfield, MO-The Springfield Cardinals won their third straight game over the Arkansas Travelers on Saturday night, winning the five game series by a final score of 18-1.
The Cardinals led throughout the game after scoring three times in the first inning. The Travs bounced back to put one on the board in the second but that would end up being their only run of the night. Arkansas starter Justin DeFratus seemed to settle in after the first inning retiring 12 out of 13 Cardinal hitters at one point with only a homer from Anthony Garcia interrupting the streak.
Springfield's offense would take over in the back half of the game though scoring twice on three consecutive doubles in the fifth and twice more in the sixth. They would continue to pile on putting up six runs on just three hits in the seventh inning before finally topping it off with four runs in the eighth. The 18 runs for the Cards came on 17 hits including two homers (both by Anthony Garcia) and seven doubles.
Dakota Hudson spun a quality outing on the hill for the Cardinals as well. The first round pick from last year out of Mississippi State scattered six hits over seven innings while allowing just the one run and striking out six Travs. He earned the victory and improved to 5-3. Justin DeFratus took the loss for the Arkansas dropping to 2-2.
The Travs are home for Father's Day as they host Northwest Arkansas on Sunday afternoon. Right-hander Dylan Unsworth (5-5, 4.23) gets the ball for Arkansas opposite righty Corey Ray (4-4, 4.39). First pitch is set for 2:10 and the first 1,000 through the gates get a special Father's Day baseball and parents and kids can play catch on the field from 1:10-1:45. The game will also be broadcast on the Sports Animal 920, the First Pitch App, TuneIn radio and milb.tv.
