Lake County Captains News Release
(Burlington, IA) - The Lake County Captains (9-19) used a five run top of the ninth inning to defeat the Burlington Bees (10-15) by a final of 7-3 on Sunday Afternoon. Logan Vick led off the inning with a double and Joe Sever tied the game with a sharp single to RF. Later in the inning with the bases loaded, Robel Garcia drew a walk to force home a run and then LeVon Washington doubled to left center field. The two bagger cleared the bases and proved to be the dagger in a 7-3 win.
In the fourth inning, The Captains scored first. Logan Vick singled with one out. Vick stole second base. The throw to second hit Vick and skipped into shallow left field. Logan took off for third base and the throw to third sailed high and Vick was able to score. The double error gave Lake County a 1-0 lead.
Burlington took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Kyle Johnson doubled and went to third base on a bunt single by Pedro Toribio. A sacrifice fly by Sherman Johnson tied the game at 1-1. Wade Hinkle, the next batter, homered over the right field wall and it was 3-1 Burlington.
The Captains inched closer in the eighth inning when LeVon Washington singled home Leonardo Castillo and the score was 3-2 Bees headed to the ninth. That was the first of four RBI's for Washington.
RHP Luis Dejesus (0-2) started for Lake County. Luis pitched six innings, which was a season high, he allowed five hits, three earned runs and he struck out a pair. Dejesus yielded the two run homer to Wade Hinkle. Luis Morel (2-1) got the win. Morel pitched three innings and allowed three hits, and one walk. Morel struck out three during his outing.
LHP Brandon Love (1-2) got the ball for the Bees. Love pitched just one inning, he allowed one hit and struck out one. The Bees used five relief pitchers. The loss went to Joseph Krehbiel. Kreheibl gave up all five runs in the ninth and only pitched two thirds of an inning.
The Captains will stay in Burlington for the final game of the series on Monday Afternoon. Lake County will start LHP Ryan Merritt (1-2, 4.13) and Burlington will counter with RHP Reid Scoggins (0-0, 1.20). First pitch is at 12:30 PM.
