Captains Rough up Bees in Series Finale

(Eastlake-OH) - The Burlington Bees (8-12) were beaten by the Lake County Captains (14-7) 10-1 in the series finale at Classic Park in Eastlake, Ohio.

After leaving the bases loaded in the bottom of the second inning, the Lake County Captains opened the scoring in the bottom of the third inning. Nathan Lukes led off the frame with a double and moved to third on a bunt single by Willi Castro. Tyler Kriger gave the Captains a 1-0 lead with a single to right, scoring Lukes. After another run scored on fielders choice, Yonathan Mendoza singled to right, scoring Francisco Mejia, upping the lead to 3-0.

Brendon Sanger led off the top of the fourth inning with a walk and moved to second on a Ranyelmy Alberto single. The next three batters were retired in order, leaving runners at first and second to end the inning.

Anthony Miller led off the bottom of the fourth inning with a walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. After moving to third on a passed ball, Miller scored on a Bobby Ison single to right, upping the score to 4-0. Two batters later, Willi Castro made it 5-0 with a double to right.

Lake County went on to add three more in the sixth inning and two more in the seventh thanks to a Willi Castro two run home run, giving the Captains a 10-0 lead.

The Bees got on the board in the ninth inning. Alex Abbott knocked a single to center, moving to second on an error. After a wild pitch put Abbott a third, Angel Genao drew a walk. Zach Welz then gave the Bees a run with a single to center, scoring Abbott, making the score 10-1.

Lake County starter Thomas Pannone (1-1) picked up the win, throwing five shutout innings, Bees starter Jose Rodriguez (1-2) was charged with the loss. The Bees head to Fort Wayne to start a three game series with the Fort Wayne Tin Caps, Friday night at 6:05 pm CST. Joe Gatto makes the start for the Bees against Austin Smith for Fort Wayne.
