Captains Can't Recover from Four Run First Inning, Fall 7-2

(Eastlake, OH) - Burlington sent nine batters to the plate and scored four runs in the opening frame of the ballgame. The early four run lead was insurmountable for the Captains. The big hit in the inning came off the bat of Dusty Robinson. Robinson doubled to left center field, which scored the first two runs for Burlington. From that point, Burlington used three more hits and scored two more runs and had the early 4-0 lead after a half of an inning.

In the bottom half of the first inning, Luigi Rodriguez hit his second homerun of the year to right center field. Luigi's homerun was his second homerun from the left side of the plate this season. That homerun put him in a tie for the team lead in homers.

Burlington got a run back in the top of the fourth inning. Chad Oberacker laid down a bunt that scored the Catcher Nick Rickles from third. The bunt was scored as a sacrifice bunt. Sean Jamieson lined into a double play as Luigi Rodriguez caught the ball and fired the ball back into second base to double off Aaron Shipman to end the inning.

Francisco Lindor hit his second homer of the year in the sixth inning. The switch-hitting Lindor has connected for the long ball both times from the left side of the plate. Lindor had another three hit performance on the afternoon. That marks the fifth three hit game for Lindor this season and overall it is the ninth multi hit game for the first round pick.

The Bees starting pitcher RHP Raul Alcantara (1-3) earned the win. Alcantara went 5.0 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, BB, 5 K, HRA. The Bees Bullpen preserved the win. They combined for four innings pitched and just allowed the homer to Lindor. Overall on the day, Burlington pitching just surrendered six hits to Lake County on Sunday Afternoon. The Final score was 7-2 Bees.

Joe Colon (1-3) took the loss for the Captains. Colon lasted four innings and allowed five runs; four earned with one walk and four strikeouts he also gave up six hits. Jeff Johnson entered the ball game for Lake County in the fifth inning and went two and two thirds innings allowing two runs, zero were earned with three walks and four strikeouts. Francisco Valera also pitched for the Captains. Valera went two and a third innings with two strikeouts. Valera had two inherited runners when he entered the ball game and they both scored.

Home plate umpire Clay Park ejected Todd Hankins in the bottom of the fifth inning. That was the first ejection of the season for the Captains.

The Captains stay at Classic Park on Monday Night at 6:30PM. The Captains will take on the Burlington Bees and send RHP Cody Anderson (2-0, 7.70) to the mound against RHP Sean Murphy (2-1, 1.17) for the Bees. The Bees are visiting Classic Park for the only time in two years with this three game set in Eastlake.
