Capitols Pck 10 Players in Phase I of the 2017 USHL Draft

MADISON, WI - The Madison Capitols, a member of the United States Hockey League, picked 10 players, including defenseman Cade Webber in the first round, fifth overall, in Phase I of the 2017 USHL Draft on Monday.

Webber, 16, played in 31 games for The Rivers School of the USHS. The defenseman recorded two goals and 15 assists for 17 points in 31 games. The 6-foot-4, 175-pound native of Meadville, PA collected three assists in four games at the 2017 OHL Cup Showcase. Webber is committed to Boston University for the 2020-21 season.

The Capitols chose center Michael Mancinelli in the second round, 21st overall, in Phase I. Mancinelli, 15, finished the 2016-17 season with 44 points (16-2844) in 49 games with the Detroit HoneyBaked 16U team. The 5-foot-9, 155-pound forward is a native of Northville, Michigan, is committed to the University of North Dakota for the 2020-2021 season.

In addition to Webber and Mancinelli, the Capitols drafted forwards Leo Bacallao (fourth round, 53rd overall), Shane LaVelle (fifth round, 69th overall), Connor Tait (sixth round, 85th overall), Reid Pabich (sixth round, 89th overall), Kristof Papp (eighth round, 117th overall), and Aliesha Song (10th round, 149th overall), and defensemen Andrew Perrott (third round, 37th overall) and Max Ruoho (ninth round, 133rd overall).

Bacallao, Pabich, and Ruoho are natives of Madison, Wisconsin, and they all played for the AAA Madison Capitols U16 team at Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena last season. Mancinelli, Perrott, and Papp all played for the Detroit HoneyBaked 16U team last season.

Madison's final pick in Phase I of the draft is current Capitols defenseman Andong Song's younger brother, Aliesha.

The Capitols traded their sixth round, 95th overall draft pick in Phase I of the 2017 USHL Draft for center Kyle Kawamura from the Lincoln Stars, the team announced on Monday.

Kawamura, 17, scored two goals in 14 games with the Stars during the 2016-17 season. The 5-foot-6, 149-pound native of Franklin, TN, was held scoreless in three games with the Stars during the 2015-16 season. Kawamura is committed to the University of Maine.

Phase II of the 2017 USHL Draft begins at 8:00 a.m. (CT) on Tuesday, May 2, 2017.
