Capitols Blueliner Drafted by the LA Kings

CHICAGO, IL - Defenseman Cole Hults of the Madison Capitols, a member of the United States Hockey League, was drafted in the fifth round, 134th overall, by the Los Angeles Kings in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft in Chicago, Illinois on Saturday.

Hults, 19, led the Capitols with 26 assists, 32 points (6-2632), and 112 penalty minutes during the 2016-17 season. The blueliner's six goals also led Madison defensemen. The 6-foot, 189-pound native of Stoughton, Wisconsin has collected 42 points (6-3642) and 206 penalty minutes in 122 games with the Capitols over three seasons, 2014-16.

The defenseman collected two goals and two assists for four points, and a plus-2 rating in three games to earn USHL/CC Defenseman of the Week honors for the week of January 1, 2017. Hults is committed to Penn State University this Fall.

Hults joins former Capitols forward Tyler Nanne (New York Rangers, 2014) goaltender Garrett Metcalf (Anaheim Ducks, 2015), defenseman Andong Song (New York Islanders, 2015), and forward Ryan Lohin (Tampa Bay Lightning, 2016) as NHL Entry Draft picks in franchise history.

Cole's older brother, Mitch Hults, signed an entry-level contract with Anaheim on March 20, 2017.
