Boston Cannons News Release

Boston, MA - Josh Hawkins tallied a hat trick, but the Boston Cannons fell 17-14 in their rematch with the Charlotte Hounds on Saturday night at Harvard Stadium. The first quarter saw an offensive flurry by both teams. The Cannons took an immediate lead following Joe Nardella's opening face-off win. Nardella located Hawkins, who carried the ball up the field and scored his first of the evening.

Less than a minute later, the Hounds knotted the score at 1-1. Mike Chanenchuk drove the ball down the field for an unassisted goal.

Not long after Max Seibald sent a rocket flying past Charlotte goalie, Charlie Cipriano for a two-point goal during man up play before the rest of the quarter saw the two teams enter a back and forth battle. The quest for the lead switched three different times.

With the Hounds clinging to a 4-3 advantage, it was Brent Adams who found the back of the net. Greg Melaugh, Davey Emala, and James Fahey were also featured in the scoring act before the buzzer sounded signaling the end of the first. The Cannons led 7-6.

Josh Hawkins opened the next quarter in similar fashion to how the scoring got underway in the first quarter. The Cannons had a two-goal lead. However, the Hounds inched back, eventually tying the game 9-9 at the halfway point.

Six minutes into the second half, the Cannons were down. They quickly rebounded with two impressive unassisted strikes. First it was Adams who scored in transition, followed by Nardella. Nardella took the ball all the way up the field off of a face-off win to give the Cannons an 11-10 lead.

The score stood at 11-11 heading into the final quarter. The Hounds continued to apply pressure on the Cannons, breaking open the score 14-11. It was their largest margin lead of the night.

Brodie Merrill scored twice for Boston within two minutes, and Hawkins scored his third goal of the affair to knot the score at 14-14 but that was all she wrote for the Cannons offense that night.

Charlotte went on a three-goal run grabbing a 17-14 lead and kept control of the possession game for the final two minutes.

Tyler Fiorito made 10 stops and Joe Nardella was 18-33 at the face-off X. Brodie Merrill led the Cannons picking up 7 ground balls during the night.

The Cannons are back in action next weekend as they travel to New York to take on the Lizards before they return home on June 23rd for a Thursday night feature against the Chesapeake Bayhawks.
