Lethbridge Hurricanes News Release

Last Week:

Monday, November 12th - Hurricanes (4) at Moose Jaw (1)

The Hurricanes ended a 3 game in 4 night road trip with a 4-1 win over the Moose Jaw Warriors Monday afternoon. Both sides generated some chances in the opening frame but the lone goal came midway through the period when Lenny Hackman's point shot was tipped behind Justin Paulic 5-hole courtesy of Brady Ramsay who scored his 5th of the season. In the 2nd they added to their lead when call-up Kolten Olynek screened Justin Paulic and Dan Johnston ripped a shot that found the back of the net just 3:28 into the period. Lethbridge added some insurance when Craig Leverton connected with Jay Merkley to make it a 3-0 game. In the 3rd, Ty Rimmer denied Sam Fioretti of a sure goal and the Canes went back the other way on a 4 on 1 rush where Jamal Watson connected with Jay Merkley. The puck went off his skate and in, but after a review it was called a good goal and it was a 4-0 lead after Merkley scored his 2nd of the game. Moose Jaw would end Rimmer's shutout bid when Bryson Gore tipped a shot past Rimmer, the Canes skated away with the 4-1 win.

Friday, November 16th - Hurricanes (2) vs. Prince Albert (3)

Two of the top teams in the Eastern Conference went head to head and it was the Hurricanes who got a quick goal, just 19 seconds into the game when Russ Maxwell scored his team leading 14th goal of the season. P.A. would pull even at the six minute mark when the Raiders broke out 2 on 1 and Leon Draisaitl took the pass and beat Ty Rimmer. Late in the first period, Jamal Watson sped down the wing and his shot went off Jaimen Yakubowski who'd get credit for his 6th of the year and the Canes would take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission. In the second period on their 2nd powerplay of the game, an odd man rush would lead to the tying goal as Draisaitl scored shorthanded to level the game at two. In the 3rd, PA took their first lead of the night 3-2 when Logan McVeigh batted home the puck just a little over two minutes in the period. The Canes pushed hard in the final 20 minutes, but couldn't pull even as they dropped a 3-2 decision to Prince Albert.

Sunday, November 18th - Hurricanes (3) vs. Brandon (5)

For the first time in 3 tries this season the Wheat Kings knocked off the Canes 5-3 Sunday night. John Quenneville beat Ty Rimmer on a 2 on 1 rush to open the scoring for Brandon, but before the first period ended, Jamal Watson banked a shot off Corbin Boes to tie things up at 1-1 after the first. A fast start to the 2nd period gave the Canes their first lead of the game at the 49 second mark on a highlight reel goal by Jaimen Yakubowski who took a great pass from Russ Maxwell and tipped it upstairs on Boes giving the home side a 2-1 lead. Brandon would claw their way back near the midway point of the period and take over with 3 straight goals starting with Hawryluk who was sprung free on a breakaway to make it 2-2. A few minutes later Quenneville would get his 2nd of the night to make it 3-2 Wheat Kings and then less than 2 minutes later, Jack Palmer would scores his first of the year on the powerplay giving the Wheat Kings a 4-2 lead after 40 minutes. Another fast start to the 3rd period for the Canes as Brady Ramsay would fire his 6th of the year behind Boes cutting it to a one goal game but that would be the only goal Boes would allow the rest of the way as the Wheaties skated to a 5-3 win.
