Canes Recall Di Giuseppe, Murphy from Charlotte

RALEIGH, NC - Ron Francis, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has recalled forward Phil Di Giuseppe and defenseman Ryan Murphy from the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL). It was also announced that defenseman Brett Pesce has been placed on injured reserve with a lower-body injury.

Di Giuseppe, 22, made his NHL debut on Dec. 5 in the Hurricanes' game against Montreal, and has notched three goals and earned five assists (8 points) in 18 NHL games this season. The Maple, Ont., native has also totaled eight goals and 10 assists (18 points) in 25 AHL games this season. The Hurricanes drafted Di Giuseppe (6'0", 200 lbs.) in the second round, 38th overall, in the 2012 NHL Draft.

Murphy, 22, last skated for the Hurricanes on Dec. 3, and has earned four assists in 18 NHL games this season. The Aurora, Ont., native has scored five goals and earned 11 assists (16 points) in 22 games with the Checkers this season to rank third in scoring among club defensemen. Murphy (5'11", 185 lbs.) has scored six goals and earned 23 assists (29 points) in 107 games with Carolina since the team drafted him in the first round, 12th overall, in the 2011 NHL Draft.
